Abstract
Neonatal death is the death of the newborns within first 28 days of life. In addition to neonatal causes, such as those associated with immaturity, perinatal hypoxia, infections, and congenital abnormalities, it can also be brought on by obstetric factors during pregnancy, labour, or delivery. It is vital to intervene as early as possible to predict the neonatal mortality, as a result of which Apgar score was introduced. Recent data shows that Apgar score alone should not be used to categorise preterm newborn children as asphyxiated. Therefore, the concept of combined Apgar score has been introduced. In this article, we discuss the shortcomings of Apgar score and compare it with combined-Apagar score for predicting neonatal outcome.
