Hygiene is simplest & important measure in preventing many communicable diseases. Keeping a good standard of hygiene helps to prevent the development and spread of infections and disease. Methods – It was cross-sectional survey included 640 household of Shimla city, stratified random sampling was done. KAP quantitative questionnaire was used. Results - 95.3% respondents bathed daily, 95.5% brushed daily, 51.7% cleaned their ears weekly, 91.4% cut their nails weekly, 97.2% washed their clothes regularly, 98.8% used shoes while went for toilet, 99.4% washed their hands when coming from market,99.8%vwashed their hands before eating, 99.8% washed their hands before preparation of food,99.8% washed fruits and vegetables before eating.74 % perceived that good hygiene was very important for preventing disease. Discussion & Conclusion- The present study observed that perception about hygiene was good among Shimla citizens, about 3/4th of Shimla citizens consider hygiene important in preventing diseases.
