The interface between history and literature can be seen from the point of complementarity and dialogue. History can provide a perspective and literature does provide readers a platform for reappraisal irrespective of time and space. The paper intends to analyze the works of two writers, Unnava Lakshmi Narayana’s Malapalli and Rohinton Mistry’s A Fine Balance. Through these writers one can examine how they differ to their approaches of history and how thy weave it through their works. In Malapalli, the writer deliberately uses folk language to disseminate it to the wider population, avoiding complication, which has its own significance. This novel is also interesting in the sense that it does not only react to history but creates an imagined future history. A Fine Balance is set in an unidentified location and explores some of the historical period during the last century. By analyzing these works the methodological approaches of the interdisciplinary field of history and literature and their similarity and dissimilarity can be observed.
