Capital Budgeting Analysis for Mobile Banking and Internet Banking of Bank Xyz Syariah
Brian Yohanes Wiseso,
Subiakto Soekarno
Until mid-2021, Bank XYZ Syariah not yet has banking services through electronic channels. Due to customer requests, plus the pandemic conditions that limit out-of-branch service, the bank decided to make mobile and internet banking which the bank plan to release at the end of 2021. Before implementing the plan, Bank XYZ Syariah needs to ensure that the investment decisions taken will provide positive financial results for the company in the long term. A study was conducted with two types of tests, a feasibility study using the method of capital budgeting analysis and sensitivity analysis to obtain a clear projection of the financial performance for the next five years. The study results show that the Net Present Value indicator returns positive. The Internal Rate of Return exceeds the Cost of Capital value. The cash flow is projected to return positive in the third year after the investment. In the next step in sensitivity analysis, the calculation identifies four financial factors that are the most sensitive in influencing the financial condition of the project: operating expenses to operating income, effective margin rate, average balance from new customers, and the financing-to-deposit ratio. These four factors have the lowest tolerance level, so it needs special attention from the management to be kept as close as possible to the initial assumptions so that the project's financial condition remains positive. By considering the two test methods, the conclusion that can be drawn is that the mobile and internet banking projects are feasible to continue. Bank XYZ Syariah also needs to set targets for new customers and their average balance and measure pirate metrics related to product effectiveness in customer activation and retention.

This confirms the beginning of societal transformation, where individuals are not only fond of saving but also becoming part of an investing society. However, increasing inclusion alone is not enough. Based on a survey by the Financial Services Authority (OJK) in 2022, the level of public access to investment products is higher than their level of understanding, highlighting the urgent need for an increase in investor literacy. Active investors, both experienced and novice, are always seeking simple, low-risk investment strategies that have been proven to work and provide returns higher than the market average. One of the strategies to consider is the Dog of The Dow strategy, which outperformed the S&P500 and DJIA in the twenty (20) year period since the start of the millennium. In this evaluation study, backtesting the historical performance of various variations of the Dog of the Dow strategy was carried out using historical data on the IDX30 stock index for the period 2012 to 2022. Rizaldi Fadilla,
Subiakto Soekarno
This paper explores the effectiveness of the mean-variance approach and the Sharpe ratio in the Qatar Stock Exchange (QSE). The data used covers a period of 10 years, from 2013 to 2022. Equal weights were initially used for different industries to achieve diversification. The selection of companies within each industry was done using a very simple technical method, which involved observing an upward trend in linear graphs, indicating a consistent increase in movement each year. Afterward, the Markowitz model was employed to identify the optimal portfolio. Several portfolios were created to achieve the expected returns while minimizing variance. Among these portfolios, the best one was determined using the Sharpe ratio. The results of this comparison yielded two and a half times better performance than the portfolio with equal weights.

Oil industries in the country has begun since 1930 and become back bone for state economic. XYC Co. operates many oil and gas field located in North, South East and West of the State. Thousand wells drilled, completed and produces. In one of their fields, it has been observed that many of the oil wells have been closed and idle because found leaking on its production tubing. The run life of the existing production tubing is less than what normal expectation, especially wells that use re-used tubing. Meanwhile for wells that uses new tubing, the run life of the tubing is much longer. Shorten run life from the tubing mainly because corrosion issue that caused by high water cut, high production rate and high formation salinity content. The existing production tubing material is not good enough to dealing with high water content. This problem cost the company with huge production loss. To mitigate these issues, the companies plan to put proper strategy in using the correct tubing type onto each new well and existing well. Tree option tubing type are available. The Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) method is introduced into the process of selection tubing type decision process-making system. By establishing hierarchical structure models, AHP compares different factors in order to get the weight of each factor. This process can quantify the importance of selection tubing type and material factors and reduce the impact of subjective factors, therefore, final decision would be reasonable and effective.

Hari Sulistyana,
Subiakto Soekarno
This final project provides a rigorous empirical analysis of portfolio optimization utilizing the Sharpe ratio on Gold asset and some selected Indonesian stock market based on basic ratio of fundamental analysis. The study attaches real data spanning from 2008 to 2017 to define portfolio allocations based on the Sharpe ratio. Subsequently, these allocations are back tested against the market data from 2018 to 2022, utilizing various investment strategies: No rebalancing, yearly rebalancing, six-monthly rebalancing and 3-monthly rebalancing, with the aim of concluding the most profitable strategy. This rebalancing strategy was assumed no transaction fee and to simplify the calculation. The study employs a robust methodology, systematically analyzing historical returns, volatility, and correlations of chosen stocks listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX) and gold asset prices. By leveraging modern portfolio theory (MPT) and the Sharpe ratio, optimal portfolio allocations are distinguished for the first study period (2008-2017), which form the basis for the subsequent back testing phase. In the backtesting phase, the determined portfolio allocations are tested against actual market developments from 2018 to 2022. The study scrutinizes the performance of each portfolio under the four distinct rebalancing strategies to ascertain their impact on the portfolio’s risk-adjusted returns. The aim is to identify which strategy yields the highest profitability while effectively managing risk, particularly in the dynamic and often volatile context of the Indonesian financial market. The findings of this research are anticipated to reveal crucial understandings into the effectiveness of different rebalancing strategies in enhancing portfolio performance. The study provides a detailed comparative analysis of the realized profits and risk-adjusted returns of each strategy, offering valuable recommendations for investors seeking to optimize their portfolios within the Indonesian stock and gold assets. In conclusion, the 6-month rebalancing was the best strategy giving highest return with minimum risks based on composition defined from Sharpe ratio methodology.
